Reaching our Height

Reaching our Height

The Lord used the eagle to describe His relationship with His children.  In Exodus 19:4 He said, “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself”.

What do we learn about eagles?

The Lord cares so much about His children’s temporal and spiritual well-being.  In my quest to know why the Lord used the eagle to describe His relationship with us, His children, I decided to do a search on the eagle.  In my search, I learned that the eagle is a high flying bird.  It is not meant to be seen on a low level; its eggs are laid rocks and at the top of very high trees such as the “Iroko tree.”   When the eggs are hatched, the mother eagle provides warmth for the eaglets with its long and full wings; it brings food for the eaglets. This process continues and the eaglets enjoy the care and love of the mother eagle.

Mother eagle prepares young for independence

A time comes when the mother eagle feels that these beautiful creatures of God should begin to assume their status in life.  At this point in time, the mother eagle prunes all its full feathers with which it had provided warmth for the eaglets.  She stops bringing in food to the nest for the eaglets and finally scatters the nest so that there will no longer be a resting place for the eaglets.   This process is described in Deuteronomy 32: 11:  “As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings”.

Learning to fly on their own

The mother eagle places the eaglets on her wings and flies high up – then suddenly dives, displacing the eaglets from her wings.  The eaglets struggle to fly and as they begin to drop down, just before they crash to the ground and become injured, the mother eagle stretches out her wings to receive them so that they do not crash.  This process of placing the eaglets on the mother eagle’s wings is repeated over and over until the eaglets become skillful in the act of flying, thus becoming what they are meant to be – high flying birds.  If the mother eagle failed to take this course of action, the eaglets would settle for a life of mediocrity; they would never have reached their heights in life.

As mortals, we receive this same nurturing care

Brothers and sisters, so it is with us as sons and daughters of God.  He loves us so much and cares about the affairs of our lives.  He allows trials and adversity in our lives which, when overcome, will help us to reach our own heights in life.  If we are not faced with our own share of these trials and adversities, we will not know how much love He has for us all.

The Lord is mindful of us:  He has a perfect plan for each and every one of His children.  Those moments of sorrow and hardship in our lives are actually designed for us to become sharpened, refined and better people.  As we learn to ask the Lord, in each of these situations, what lessons are to be learned, we would realize our potentials and come to a sure knowledge of His goodness in our lives.

I testify to you that the Lord would continue to bear us up as on eagle wings for us to reach our height in life.  In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
